Match Preview Paul Pogba Marcus Rashford Manchester United vs Bournemouth Premier League 2018-19Manchester United may not have been properly tested under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but as the old adage goes: you can only beat what’s in front of you.United have been doing just that – and in some style, too.Victories over Cardiff, Huddersfield and Bournemouth have come in blistering style, with the resurgence of the team coinciding with a dramatic upswing in the form of World Cup-winning midfielder Paul Pogba.“I can definitely, definitely, see the Paul I used to know,” Jesse Lingard said . “He has the freedom to make things happen. He has always got forward in that position and scored goals.“Ole has helped him 100%. He has given him the confidence and licence to be free, to play his game and do what we know he can.”Meanwhile, Pogba told Sky Sports: “Everyone is enjoying themselves. We are coming back, and there is still a long way to go, but to finish the year like that is beautiful.“We are Manchester United and we need to be at the top of the league.”But there is an obligation at Old Trafford to play beautiful football as well as winning, according to Solskjaer. “We have been at home two games now and the crowd, we have to entertain them,” he explained.Newcastle, though, represent dangerous opponents, having beaten United 1-0 at St James’ Park last season.Rafael Benitez’s side have lost only one of their last four Premier League matches, though that was a heavy 4-0 loss at Liverpool on Boxing Day. With United in rampant form, they will be concerned about slipping to another such loss. Bellerin’s knee hands Arsenal another injury headache

first_imgHector Bellerin has handed Arsenal another untimely injury headache after being forced off with a knee problem against Chelsea. The Spanish full-back was stretchered from the field with 18 minutes remaining on Saturday. He had gone down unchallenged, with the sight of him crumpling to the turf causing immediate concern. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? It quickly became apparent that he was in no position to continue as Bellerin was left clutching his knee and was clearly in some discomfort. After being assessed by medical staff, he was taken off with his left leg in a brace. The 23-year-old has already spent time on the sidelines this season with a calf complaint. That ailment kept him out of action over the hectic festive period.Having last figured for Arsenal in a 3-2 defeat at Southampton on December 16, he returned to the Gunners fold against West Ham on January 12.He is now facing up to another stint on the treatment table less than two games into his pursuit of full fitness.Unai Emery Arsenal 2018-19Bellerin appeared to suffer his latest setback when changing direction. His leg gave way beneath him and he was left stricken on the Emirates Stadium pitch.Arsenal had established a 2-0 lead in a crunch clash with their London rivals prior to losing Bellerin, with Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny on target .They are, however, going to have to tinker with their defensive plans again over the coming weeks. It remains to be seen how long Bellerin will be ruled out for, but the outlook appears bleak.Unai Emery faces another selection poser as a result, with the Arsenal boss having been forced to contend with several injury issues at the back this season.Against Chelsea, he took the decision to introduce Mohamed Elneny.Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who can operate in either full-back berth, was already on the field after coming on in place of Aaron Ramsey. Valencia in talks to sign Rafinha

first_imgValencia are in negotiations with Barcelona over the signing of midfielder Rafinha, with the Catalan club valuing their player at between €15 million (£13m/$16m) and €20 million (£17m/$21m), sources familiar with the deal have confirmed to Goal.  Rafinha has a year left on his current deal at Camp Nou but Barca are keen to cash in on the Brazilian as they look to offload a number of players in order to bring in big-money signings this summer. Barca are also concerned by the 26-year-old’s injury record as he has suffered a number of serious problems in recent seasons, including two torn ligaments. Rafinha made just five La Liga appearances last term and failed to feature after November due to a ruptured cruciate ligament.  He has now recovered from the problem though and is expected to be fit for pre-season.  Valencia head coach Marcelino is keen on Rafinha’s versatility, as he has been used in a number of roles for Barca, including central midfield, full-back and on the wing.  And the Mestalla club wants to move quickly to get a deal over the line as a number of other suitors are also eyeing a move for the Barca academy graduate. The La Liga champions would prefer a permanent move although an initial loan deal with a purchase option could be considered, despite Rafinha’s contract coming to an end.  Sources told Goal that Valencia have currently tabled a €12 million (£11m/$13m) bid, and that Barca would accept an offer of €15 million for their man this summer. The two clubs are also negotiating a swap deal involving goalkeepers Jasper Cillessen and Neto. And Barca midfielder Denis Suarez is reportedly keen on a move to the Mestalla, but Valencia are yet to make a bid for the 25-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Arsenal.  The Catalan side is keen to get Suarez off their books as well following his underwhelming spell in north London. Philippe Coutinho is another name that has been linked with a departure this summer. The Brazil playmaker has failed to establish himself at Camp Nou and admitted this week he is uncertain of his future.last_img read more

Former Ohio State FB Star Has A Message For People Destroying Nike Gear

(Photo by Jamie Sabau/Getty Images)On Monday, Nike announced that NFL free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick is the face of the 30th anniversary of its famous “Just Do It” advertising campaign. As expected, the decision has drawn praise from one side of the political spectrum, and ire from the other. Those who dislike Kaepernick for the NFL protests that he kickstarted a few years ago, before he was released by the San Francisco 49ers and became unable to find a job, have declared that they will boycott the apparel giant. Some have gone as far as to destroy their Nike gear. The most notable tweet is probably the one from John Rich of country band “Big & Rich,” whose soundman cut the Nike logos off of his socks. Our Soundman just cut the Nike swoosh off his socks. Former marine. Get ready @Nike multiply that by the millions. pic.twitter.com/h8kj6RXe7j— John Rich (@johnrich) September 3, 2018Others have gone as far as to burn their Nike shoes. That’s a pretty expensive decision, but to each their own. That move has drawn criticism as well, as there are plenty of people who could use unwanted Nike shoes and socks, namely underprivileged children and homeless or struggling veterans.Joshua Perry, a former Ohio State star linebacker, has a great offer to those who have decided to protest Nike in response to the Colin Kaepernick news.Rather than destroy or throw away the gear, send it to him so that he can get it in the hands and on the feet of those who need it, he says.Perry posted a P.O. Box address to which people can send unwanted Nike gear. He says that it will be given to kids who are stuck wearing “battered shoes and clothes that don’t fit.”So any people with a burning desire to get rid of their @Nike (or other gently used clothing/shoes for that matter), please send to: @JoshuaPerryFF P.O. Box 164, Lewis Center, OH, 43035 and I’ll find an appreciative home for your stuff. https://t.co/1IAW3fEAuQ— Joshua E Perry (@RIP_JEP) September 4, 2018Great question! They aren’t jerks for their opinions. They’re jerks for ruining good products that could be donated to folks that would appreciate them. A lot of kids will go to school this fall with battered shoes and clothes that don’t fit. https://t.co/FOmCQs07h0— Joshua E Perry (@RIP_JEP) September 4, 2018This is undoubtedly a better use of those clothes than burning them for some retweets and likes. People certainly have the right to protest the company if they want, but this is definitely a more productive way to do so.Perry just finished up his NFL career, retiring after two years in the league, which he spent with the Chargers and Colts. He was in camp with the Seattle Seahawks this year but retired, citing multiple concussions. The Ohio State national championship-winner does work with kids in the Columbus area, according to WKYC.last_img read more

The senior signal caller will transfer.Bryant revealed the news this morning in an exclusive interview with Manie Robinson of  The Greenville News. On Sunday, Bryant was informed by Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney that true freshman Trevor Lawrence was going to be the starting quarterback.Bryant is able to transfer thanks to the new NCAA redshirt rule. Because he only played in four games this season, Bryant has not lost a year of eligibility. He can graduate and transfer elsewhere, where he’ll be immediately eligible in 2019.BREAKING: Kelly Bryant tells the Greenville News he’ll transfer out of Clemson. https://t.co/sT5PgwER42— Rick Bonnell (@rick_bonnell) September 26, 2018In his interview with Robinson, Bryant says he feels he “didn’t get a fair shot” this season and felt being demoted was “a slap in the face.”“They asked me how I felt about it,” Bryant said, recalling his meeting with Swinney. “I was like, ‘I’m not discrediting Trevor. He’s doing everything asked of him, but on my side of it, I feel like I haven’t done anything to not be the starter. I’ve been here. I’ve waited my turn. I’ve done everything y’all have asked me to do, plus more.’“I’ve never been a distraction. I’ve never been in trouble with anything. To me, it was kind of a slap in the face.”The senior missed the last two days of practice after Swinney told him Lawrence was now the starter. On Monday, Swinney expressed support for Bryant if he told him he wanted to transfer.“Certainly if he walked in here today and said, ‘Hey, coach, I don’t want to play the rest of the year unless you’ve got to have me,’ well ‘Ok, if that’s what you want to do, I’m all for it.’ I love Kelly,” Swinney said. “I would be disappointed in that because we need him. But I wouldn’t judge him for that.”Bryant has started the last 18 games for Clemson. For his career, he’s thrown for 3,333 yards, 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 987 yards and 16 touchdowns. The list of programs interested in Bryant for 2019 will be a long one. He’s a dual-threat with experience at the highest level of college football.Stay tuned for more on this breaking story.last_img read more

Recruiting Analyst Gives Bru McCoy Timetable Update

first_imgFive-star Bru McCoy discusses his recruitment.FOX Sports WestAfter it was revealed this week that Texas wide receiver Bru McCoy was contemplating a flip back to USC, where he originally enrolled earlier this year, the Longhorns promptly put together a contingent to try and convince him otherwise. As for when we might find out McCoy’s final decision, one recruiting analyst may have the answer.According to 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins, McCoy is likely to make his final decision by the weekend. Before then though, he will reportedly hear an appeal from a Longhorns contingent of Tom Herman, quarterback Sam Ehlinger, and several coaches.“Long story short, I think by the end of this week — probably Thursday or Friday — there will be a final decision whether to go back into the portal and come back home, which, like I said, would likely be USC,” Biggins said. “Or, you know, maybe they will decide to go and stick it out and go play for Texas.”But Biggins isn’t entirely convinced that the Longhorns’ efforts will bear fruit. He believes that McCoy will ultimately choose to go back to USC.“My gut, right now and from what I’m hearing, I think it looks pretty likely — as has been speculated — that the move will probably be [to] stay home and go back to USC, which will be a shocker in the grand scheme of things,” Biggins said.247Sports rates McCoy as the No. 9 overall recruit in the country. He is the No. 1 athlete in the country, and the No. 2 prospect from the state of California. Back in early-January, McCoy enrolled at USC, choosing them over the Longhorns. But he quickly changed his mind, withdrawing and enrolling at Texas a few weeks later.Combined with fellow five-star wide receiver Jordan Whittington, the Longhorns seemed poised to have a dynamic receiving duo for the next couple of years. But if McCoy backs out and returns to his home state, the Longhorns certainly look likely to lose some of the ground they’ve been trying to gain on arch-rival Oklahoma.[247Sports]last_img read more

Michigan, Army Players Show Great Sportsmanship After Game

first_imgMichigan and Army players join together after Wolverines' overtime win.Twitter/@chengelis It wound up being a much more difficult endeavor than most anticipated, but Michigan football outlasted Army in overtime today. The Wolverines came away with a 24-21 win, after Army missed a long would-be game-winning field goal in regulation, and fumbled away the game in OT.The two teams traded touchdowns to start overtime. Army held Michigan to a field goal to start the second overtime, which appeared to open the gates for an upset win.Instead, quarterback Kelvin Hopkins Jr. fumbled on the third play of the ensuing drive, handing the ball back to Michigan for the win.Michigan caught some flak for how it reacted to the win, with multiple Wolverines jumping into the stands to celebrate with their fans. Michigan was a 22-point favorite entering the game. What happened after that is hard for anyone to criticize. As often happens after games involving service academies, the two teams joined in the corner of the end zone after the game to sing the fight song in front of the West Point Cadets who made their way to Ann Arbor for the game. Both teams join together pic.twitter.com/MRjpeYyump— angelique (@chengelis) September 7, 2019Those who tune in to the Army-Navy Game at the end of every season will know this tradition well. It is one of the cooler moments of the year at that game, and a very cool scene when the service academies have the chance to play at places like Michigan Stadium.Michigan has a chance to regroup after a tough game, with a Week 3 bye. In Week 4, the Wolverines take a trip to face Big Ten West power Wisconsin.Army, which sits at 1-1 after the loss, travels to UTSA next week. BCCI agrees to work with National Anti-Doping Agency for next 6 months

first_imgBCCI agrees to work with National Anti-Doping Agency for next 6 monthsThe BCCI was willing to work with NADA for a period of six months, but the agency would be allowed to collect only 10 per cent samples for testing, according to sources.advertisement Indo-Asian News Service New DelhiMarch 18, 2019UPDATED: March 18, 2019 11:51 IST NADA will collect only 10 per cent samples for testing (Getty Images)The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) met ICC chairman Shashank Manohar in Mumbai on Monday and decided that the Indian board will work with the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) for the next six months on a trial basis.Speaking to IANS, sources in the know of developments said that the board was willing to work with NADA for a period of six months, but the agency would be allowed to collect only 10 per cent samples for testing.”The Indian board has agreed to try and work with NADA for the next six months and then decide on the road ahead.”Trust has been an issue and that needs to be gained with quality work from the agency. The agency will collect only 10 per cent samples for testing.”The board feels that with the 2022 Commonwealth Games in sight, India would like to field the women’s team in the event at Birmingham and this is a move aimed at that direction,” the source said. While the International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to remain compliant to the WADA directives, the BCCI had reservation on dealing with NADA.ICC CEO David Richardson in February spoke on the need to get the differences between the BCCI and NADA sorted.”We are trying to help the BCCI sort out the issue with WADA and NADA. We think cricket should be in the 2028 Olympics, but it’s not going to happen unless we are a unified sport.advertisement”At this stage, we need to convince the BCCI that it is a good thing for cricket to be in the Olympics from all aspects,” he had said. However, the BCCI officials present at the last ICC chief executive meeting had made it clear that WADA must name a different testing agency as they did not trust NADA, thanks to mistakes the agency had made. For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. We let ourselves down in the field, says R Ashwin after KXIP’s 8-wicket loss vs RCB

first_img Rohan Sen MohaliApril 14, 2019UPDATED: April 14, 2019 08:49 IST IPL 2019: Kings XI Punjab became the first team to lose to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing season ( Courtesy by BCCI)HIGHLIGHTSKings XI Punjab suffered their 1st defeat at home in IPL 2019 on SaturdayKXIP posted only 173 in good batting conditions despite Gayle hitting an unbeaten 99KXIP were sloppy in the field, missing a few important catches and leaking extra runsKings XI Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwin blamed the poor fielding as the reason behind his team’s defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Mohali on Saturday. The win was Bangalore’s first this season after seven matches.Bangalore rode on half-centuries from captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to chase down 174 at the IS Bindra stadium. Punjab’s poor fielding made matters worse for them as their seven-match unbeaten streak at home came to an end.”We tried with wrist spinners and even I came to bowl, but they were smart enough to knock around and not take any chances. We let ourselves down in the field. We drooped catches and let a lot of balls go through us. The dew helped the wicket on.”It was really dry in the first half. It gets better to bat in the second half. With 38 needed off 3 overs, I had to back my best bowlers to do the job, didn’t quite work out today,” Ashwin said at the post-match presentation.Virat Kohli (67) in the company of AB de Villiers (59 not out) scripted a superb run-chase, sharing a 85-run stand to lay the foundation. The India skipper blasted eight boundaries, while de Villiers clobbered two sixes and five hits across the rope in his 38-ball innings. With this victory, RCB also avoided the ignominy of most successive losses for a team at the start of an IPL season. With everything moving in Bangalore’s way on Saturday, Mohammed Shami bought some relief to the Punjab camp after picking the crucial wicket of Kohli in the 16th over with the visitors’ score reading 128 for 2.advertisementThe Punjab bowlers however, were denied to make any further inroads in the Bangalore batting line-up as de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis (28 not out) joined hands and played sensibly before fetching 14 runs in the second last over off Shami. In the final over, Ashwin handed the ball to former Bangalore player Sarfaraz Khan to defend six runs. However, there was no stopping the Bangalore pair as Stoinis hammered a four in the first ball before picking the required couple of runs in the next to hand a comfortable victory to his side. When asked why Sarfraz Khan was chosen to bowl the final over, Ashwin said,”There was only 6 runs to go and the ball was sliding on nicely. I thought the best way against AB and Stoinis was to try and go with a leggie, not that Sam can’t defend.”Kings XI Punjab remain in fifth position with 8 points from 8 games while Royal Challengers Bangalore are still languishing in last place with 2 points from 7 matches. Also Read | Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers end Royal Challengers Bangalore’s losing streakAlso Read | Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers thrilled after RCB finally win one this yearAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. World Cup 2019: Maybe Bangladesh will be the people’s team, says coach Steve Rhodes

first_img Reuters BirminghamJuly 3, 2019UPDATED: July 3, 2019 09:50 IST Coach Steve Rhodes rues Bangladesh’s poor luck after elimination. (AP Photo)HIGHLIGHTSBangladesh crashed out of the semi-finals race after suffering their 4th lossMashrafe Mortaza’s side has defeated West Indies, South Africa and Afghanistan so farCoach Steve Rhodes admitted that luck eluded Bangladesh in this tournamentBangladesh coach Steve Rhodes said he was proud of his side’s fighting spirit and believed that with a little bit of luck they could have progressed to the semi-finals of the Cricket World Cup.Bangladesh was eliminated on Tuesday after succumbing to their fourth defeat in eight matches while India, who prevailed by 28 runs, sailed into the last four with a match to spare.Mashrafe Mortaza’s men beat West Indies, South Africa, and Afghanistan, while their match against Sri Lanka was washed out.I’m very proud of the way we’ve played against a lot of the big teams, and I think that maybe we’ll be the people’s team for the amount of fight that we’ve shown against some of these big teams, Rhodes told reporters after the loss against India. It was pleasing to see some fight. I think it’s a reflection of the team. We’ve only picked up the three victories but we’ve pushed a lot of these big teams throughout the competition and, with a little bit of luck, we may well have been one of these top four.Tamim Iqbal dropping Rohit Sharma, then on nine, probably best summed up their luckless World Cup campaign as the India opener went on to smash his fourth century of this year’s tournament and help India to a commanding 314-9.Rhodes admitted it was a costly mistake, giving a reprieve to the tournament’s leading run scorer, but refused to blame the fielder.advertisementI’ve watched a lot of cricket over the years and played a lot of cricket and you know that any drop can be costly, said the former England test player.I didn’t know how costly it would be. I was hoping he’d hit another one up in the air a little bit sooner.Rohit Sharma, what a wonderful batsman he is in world cricket. You give guys like him a chance, or (Virat) Kohli a chance, and you may well pay the price.Again, the person who dropped it was Tamim, and he’s developed into one of our safer pair of hands in the outfield. So it was a little bit of a surprise but he’s human, and we’re all human. I’ve dropped lots of catches in my life. I think everybody who’s played the game has dropped catches but sometimes they can be very, very costly, and that one proved to be.Also Read | World Cup 2019: This is the best I have seen Bangladesh play, says Sachin TendulkarAlso Read | World Cup 2019: Rohit Sharma played chess with Bangladesh bowling attack, says Sachin TendulkarAlso SeeFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. BEST HARRINGTON JACKETS FOR SUMMER

first_img A Good Waxed Jacket Is the Best Jacket to Wear This Season Lightweight spring jackets may have come in a cornucopia of styles, colors and prints on the runways this season, but if we had to pick one that would go the distance, we’d select the Harrington, named after the style of jacket worn by Ryan O’Neal’s Rodney Harrington in the 1960s classic soap, “Peyton Place.”Traditionally a zip-front jacket with an extended tab collar and flap pockets made from lightweight summer fabrics with a Tartan lining, the jacket became an integral part of the Ivy look in the mid 1950s and, across the Atlantic, the pared down uniform of Mod boys on racer bikes.Of all the makers over the years, however, the British heritage brand Baracuta would remain the most influential, channeling the utilitarian brilliance of British rainwear and the stylish simplicity of modern American sportswear into the G9, the choice of Elvis, James Dean and Steve McQueen in “The Thomas Crown Affair.”This season design houses from Burberry to Valentino revisited the classic, offering it in a variety of bold prints. Here at The Manual, we recommend beginning with a simple, clean iteration of the everyday classic and throwing it on when the weather cools or when you just need that added layer to take a generic shirt-pant combo to the next level of effortless, casual sophistication.Baracuta G9 Original, available at www.baracuta.comMemory Nylon Harrington Blazer by Ben Sherman, $112.50; available at www.bensherman.comLifetime Collective Harrington Jacket in cotton twill, $250; available at www.topman.comBarracuda Jacket by Club Monaco, $169.50; available at www.clubmonaco.comGoose Bomber Jacket by Saturdays, $200; available at www.saturdaysnyc.comTipper Microfiber Jacket by Fred Perry, $190; available at www.fredperry.comGarment Dyed Short Summer Jacket by Scotch & Soda; available at www.scotch-soda.comWeeds Jacket by Gant Rugger, $196; available at www.gant.comLeopard Print Bomber Jacket by YMC, $290; available at www.mrporter.comClassic Barracuda Jacket by York Street by J.Press, $145; available at www.stevenalan.com A Guide to Raw Denim Jean Selection and Care Editors’ Recommendations The Best Diaper Bags for Stylish Dads The Best Fun Socks for Men to Spruce Up Your Footwear Game Best Weekend Sales on Menswear and Gear: Huckberry, Allen Edmonds, J.
