About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say Liverpool No2 Lijnders: Keita ready to shineby Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders says Naby Keita will feature in the Carabao Cup against MK Dons.It will be his first competitive Liverpool appearance since last season’s Champions League semi-finals. Keita is back in training having overcome the recurrence of an adductor injury initially sustained in the first leg of that epic battle with Barcelona last term.It was during the Reds’ Community Shield meeting with Manchester City that Keita suffered the setback, meaning he has failed to play a single minute of the new campaign.Asked if the midfielder might feature tomorrow, Lijnders said: “Yes. I will not give the team but… “He is in a really good way. What a boy! He makes our build-up play completely different, he creates unpredictability [in] how the ball moves forward. “He’s an important player and hopefully we can use him in the next weeks. Tomorrow will be a day where he will shine.”

Match Preview Manchester United may not have been properly tested under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but as the old adage goes: you can only beat what’s in front of you.United have been doing just that – and in some style, too.Victories over Cardiff, Huddersfield and Bournemouth have come in blistering style, with the resurgence of the team coinciding with a dramatic upswing in the form of World Cup-winning midfielder Paul Pogba.“I can definitely, definitely, see the Paul I used to know,” Jesse Lingard said . “He has the freedom to make things happen. He has always got forward in that position and scored goals.“Ole has helped him 100%. He has given him the confidence and licence to be free, to play his game and do what we know he can.”Meanwhile, Pogba told Sky Sports: “Everyone is enjoying themselves. We are coming back, and there is still a long way to go, but to finish the year like that is beautiful.“We are Manchester United and we need to be at the top of the league.”But there is an obligation at Old Trafford to play beautiful football as well as winning, according to Solskjaer. “We have been at home two games now and the crowd, we have to entertain them,” he explained.Newcastle, though, represent dangerous opponents, having beaten United 1-0 at St James’ Park last season.Rafael Benitez’s side have lost only one of their last four Premier League matches, though that was a heavy 4-0 loss at Liverpool on Boxing Day. With United in rampant form, they will be concerned about slipping to another such loss. Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.
Hector Bellerin has handed Arsenal another untimely injury headache after being forced off with a knee problem against Chelsea. The Spanish full-back was stretchered from the field with 18 minutes remaining on Saturday. He had gone down unchallenged, with the sight of him crumpling to the turf causing immediate concern. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? It quickly became apparent that he was in no position to continue as Bellerin was left clutching his knee and was clearly in some discomfort. After being assessed by medical staff, he was taken off with his left leg in a brace. The 23-year-old has already spent time on the sidelines this season with a calf complaint. That ailment kept him out of action over the hectic festive period.Having last figured for Arsenal in a 3-2 defeat at Southampton on December 16, he returned to the Gunners fold against West Ham on January 12.He is now facing up to another stint on the treatment table less than two games into his pursuit of full fitness.Bellerin appeared to suffer his latest setback when changing direction. His leg gave way beneath him and he was left stricken on the Emirates Stadium pitch.Arsenal had established a 2-0 lead in a crunch clash with their London rivals prior to losing Bellerin, with Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny on target .They are, however, going to have to tinker with their defensive plans again over the coming weeks. It remains to be seen how long Bellerin will be ruled out for, but the outlook appears bleak.Unai Emery faces another selection poser as a result, with the Arsenal boss having been forced to contend with several injury issues at the back this season.Against Chelsea, he took the decision to introduce Mohamed Elneny.Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who can operate in either full-back berth, was already on the field after coming on in place of Aaron Ramsey. Valencia are in negotiations with Barcelona over the signing of midfielder Rafinha, with the Catalan club valuing their player at between €15 million (£13m/$16m) and €20 million (£17m/$21m), sources familiar with the deal have confirmed to Goal. Rafinha has a year left on his current deal at Camp Nou but Barca are keen to cash in on the Brazilian as they look to offload a number of players in order to bring in big-money signings this summer. Barca are also concerned by the 26-year-old’s injury record as he has suffered a number of serious problems in recent seasons, including two torn ligaments. Rafinha made just five La Liga appearances last term and failed to feature after November due to a ruptured cruciate ligament. He has now recovered from the problem though and is expected to be fit for pre-season. Valencia head coach Marcelino is keen on Rafinha’s versatility, as he has been used in a number of roles for Barca, including central midfield, full-back and on the wing. And the Mestalla club wants to move quickly to get a deal over the line as a number of other suitors are also eyeing a move for the Barca academy graduate. The La Liga champions would prefer a permanent move although an initial loan deal with a purchase option could be considered, despite Rafinha’s contract coming to an end. Sources told Goal that Valencia have currently tabled a €12 million (£11m/$13m) bid, and that Barca would accept an offer of €15 million for their man this summer. The two clubs are also negotiating a swap deal involving goalkeepers Jasper Cillessen and Neto. And Barca midfielder Denis Suarez is reportedly keen on a move to the Mestalla, but Valencia are yet to make a bid for the 25-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Arsenal. The Catalan side is keen to get Suarez off their books as well following his underwhelming spell in north London. Philippe Coutinho is another name that has been linked with a departure this summer. The Brazil playmaker has failed to establish himself at Camp Nou and admitted this week he is uncertain of his future.
COLUMBUS, OH – NOVEMBER 29: The Ohio State Buckeyes celebrate their 42-28 victory over the Michigan Wolverines by performing their alma mater song Carmen Ohio at Ohio Stadium on November 29, 2014 in Columbus, Ohio. (Photo by Jamie Sabau/Getty Images)On Monday, Nike announced that NFL free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick is the face of the 30th anniversary of its famous “Just Do It” advertising campaign. As expected, the decision has drawn praise from one side of the political spectrum, and ire from the other. Those who dislike Kaepernick for the NFL protests that he kickstarted a few years ago, before he was released by the San Francisco 49ers and became unable to find a job, have declared that they will boycott the apparel giant. Some have gone as far as to destroy their Nike gear. The most notable tweet is probably the one from John Rich of country band “Big & Rich,” whose soundman cut the Nike logos off of his socks. Our Soundman just cut the Nike swoosh off his socks. Former marine. Get ready @Nike multiply that by the millions. pic.twitter.com/h8kj6RXe7j— John Rich (@johnrich) September 3, 2018Others have gone as far as to burn their Nike shoes. That’s a pretty expensive decision, but to each their own. That move has drawn criticism as well, as there are plenty of people who could use unwanted Nike shoes and socks, namely underprivileged children and homeless or struggling veterans.Joshua Perry, a former Ohio State star linebacker, has a great offer to those who have decided to protest Nike in response to the Colin Kaepernick news.Rather than destroy or throw away the gear, send it to him so that he can get it in the hands and on the feet of those who need it, he says.Perry posted a P.O. Box address to which people can send unwanted Nike gear. He says that it will be given to kids who are stuck wearing “battered shoes and clothes that don’t fit.”So any people with a burning desire to get rid of their @Nike (or other gently used clothing/shoes for that matter), please send to: @JoshuaPerryFF P.O. Box 164, Lewis Center, OH, 43035 and I’ll find an appreciative home for your stuff. https://t.co/1IAW3fEAuQ— Joshua E Perry (@RIP_JEP) September 4, 2018Great question! They aren’t jerks for their opinions. They’re jerks for ruining good products that could be donated to folks that would appreciate them. A lot of kids will go to school this fall with battered shoes and clothes that don’t fit. https://t.co/FOmCQs07h0— Joshua E Perry (@RIP_JEP) September 4, 2018This is undoubtedly a better use of those clothes than burning them for some retweets and likes. People certainly have the right to protest the company if they want, but this is definitely a more productive way to do so.Perry just finished up his NFL career, retiring after two years in the league, which he spent with the Chargers and Colts. He was in camp with the Seattle Seahawks this year but retired, citing multiple concussions. The Ohio State national championship-winner does work with kids in the Columbus area, according to WKYC.
CHARLOTTE, NC – DECEMBER 02: Kelly Bryant #2 of the Clemson Tigers reacts after a touchdown against the Miami Hurricanes in the third quarter during the ACC Football Championship at Bank of America Stadium on December 2, 2017 in Charlotte, North Carolina. (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)Just three days after being told he was no longer Clemson’s starting quarterback, Kelly Bryant has made a decision on his future. The senior signal caller will transfer.Bryant revealed the news this morning in an exclusive interview with Manie Robinson of The Greenville News. On Sunday, Bryant was informed by Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney that true freshman Trevor Lawrence was going to be the starting quarterback.Bryant is able to transfer thanks to the new NCAA redshirt rule. Because he only played in four games this season, Bryant has not lost a year of eligibility. He can graduate and transfer elsewhere, where he’ll be immediately eligible in 2019.BREAKING: Kelly Bryant tells the Greenville News he’ll transfer out of Clemson. https://t.co/sT5PgwER42— Rick Bonnell (@rick_bonnell) September 26, 2018In his interview with Robinson, Bryant says he feels he “didn’t get a fair shot” this season and felt being demoted was “a slap in the face.”“They asked me how I felt about it,” Bryant said, recalling his meeting with Swinney. “I was like, ‘I’m not discrediting Trevor. He’s doing everything asked of him, but on my side of it, I feel like I haven’t done anything to not be the starter. I’ve been here. I’ve waited my turn. I’ve done everything y’all have asked me to do, plus more.’“I’ve never been a distraction. I’ve never been in trouble with anything. To me, it was kind of a slap in the face.”The senior missed the last two days of practice after Swinney told him Lawrence was now the starter. On Monday, Swinney expressed support for Bryant if he told him he wanted to transfer.“Certainly if he walked in here today and said, ‘Hey, coach, I don’t want to play the rest of the year unless you’ve got to have me,’ well ‘Ok, if that’s what you want to do, I’m all for it.’ I love Kelly,” Swinney said. “I would be disappointed in that because we need him. But I wouldn’t judge him for that.”Bryant has started the last 18 games for Clemson. For his career, he’s thrown for 3,333 yards, 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 987 yards and 16 touchdowns. The list of programs interested in Bryant for 2019 will be a long one. He’s a dual-threat with experience at the highest level of college football.Stay tuned for more on this breaking story.

FOX Sports WestAfter it was revealed this week that Texas wide receiver Bru McCoy was contemplating a flip back to USC, where he originally enrolled earlier this year, the Longhorns promptly put together a contingent to try and convince him otherwise. As for when we might find out McCoy’s final decision, one recruiting analyst may have the answer.According to 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins, McCoy is likely to make his final decision by the weekend. Before then though, he will reportedly hear an appeal from a Longhorns contingent of Tom Herman, quarterback Sam Ehlinger, and several coaches.“Long story short, I think by the end of this week — probably Thursday or Friday — there will be a final decision whether to go back into the portal and come back home, which, like I said, would likely be USC,” Biggins said. “Or, you know, maybe they will decide to go and stick it out and go play for Texas.”But Biggins isn’t entirely convinced that the Longhorns’ efforts will bear fruit. He believes that McCoy will ultimately choose to go back to USC.“My gut, right now and from what I’m hearing, I think it looks pretty likely — as has been speculated — that the move will probably be [to] stay home and go back to USC, which will be a shocker in the grand scheme of things,” Biggins said.247Sports rates McCoy as the No. 9 overall recruit in the country. He is the No. 1 athlete in the country, and the No. 2 prospect from the state of California. Back in early-January, McCoy enrolled at USC, choosing them over the Longhorns. But he quickly changed his mind, withdrawing and enrolling at Texas a few weeks later.Combined with fellow five-star wide receiver Jordan Whittington, the Longhorns seemed poised to have a dynamic receiving duo for the next couple of years. But if McCoy backs out and returns to his home state, the Longhorns certainly look likely to lose some of the ground they’ve been trying to gain on arch-rival Oklahoma.[247Sports]
